Dementia causes a loss of cognitive functioning that interferes with remembering, reasoning, and thinking. However, consistency in routine can increase a sense of stability as the disease progresses. To create consistency in your loved one’s routine, develop a plan that includes daily activities and when they will occur, such as bedtime, mealtimes, social activities, and personal hygiene schedules. Daily routines are vital for both people with Dementia and caregivers as they instill confidence and create a much-needed structure to the day. Some days will be more challenging than others, but keeping as close to the routine as possible.

Boost Alertness With The Right Nutrients: To remain alert and concentrate, the brain requires a steady supply of glucose. Your body needs certain dietary minerals such as manganese, iron, and magnesium to metabolize glucose adequately. If you are deficient in iron, the oxygen delivery to the brain is compromised, leading to poor mental function and fatigue. Vitamins And Minerals Improve Memory Function: Produce like fruits and vegetables contain the vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals that help memory to improve. Studies show that consuming folic acid and B vitamins in spinach, beets, broccoli, peas, and oranges enhances memory functions. Additionally, increasing consumption of omega-3 fatty acids may protect the brain from memory loss as you age.

Our latest product is Qurelac, a specially prepared synbiotics that merges the benefits of 12 different strains of both probiotics and prebiotics to provide a boost to your immune system. With a specially patented heat treatment process, it provides a concentration of up to 5 trillion bacterial units, substantially higher than any comparable products on the market. The 12 strains are blended in the ideal proportion to stimulate microfold M cells and increase IgA and IgG antibodies which research has shown to increase the ability of NK cells, a special type of white blood cells, to fight and destroy cancerous cells. Efficacy of ketamine in Australia mechanically ventilated intensive care unit patients with Dr. Tom Niccol

Safety of ketamine in Australia mechanically ventilated intensive care unit admissions from doctor Tom Niccol: Ketamine was first synthesised almost 60 years ago and is similar in structure to the psychotropic agent phencyclidine. In a number of countries (eg, Australia and New Zealand), it is prepared as a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, with each having slightly different receptor affinities. Ketamine is a selective, non-competitive, N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist. NMDA receptors are one of the group of receptors for glutamate, the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain and spinal cord. They are present at all levels in the central nervous system (CNS) and play crucial roles in many neurological functions, including pain, breathing, locomotion, learning, and memory formation. Discover extra information on doctor Tom Niccol.

Mechanically ventilated patients account for about one-third of all admissions to the intensive care unit (ICU). Ketamine has been conditionally recommended to aid with analgesia in such patients, with low quality of evidence available to support this recommendation. We aimed to perform a narrative scoping review of the current knowledge of the use of ketamine, with a specific focus on mechanically ventilated ICU patients.

Ketamine used in anaesthetic doses (1–4.5 mg/kg intravenous) leads to dissociative anaesthesia: the patient appears conscious (eyes open, able to swallow) with preserved respiratory function and pharyngeal and laryngeal reflexes, but is unaware, unable to process or respond to sensory input. In addition, analgesia may also be mediated through serotonin and noradrenaline receptor activation and reuptake inhibition, as well as effects on δ, ϰ and μ opioid receptors. Unlike opioid medications, ketamine is thought to have little effect on gastrointestinal μ receptors, minimising the risk of constipation.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE for relevant articles. Bibliographies of retrieved articles were examined for references of potential relevance. We included studies that described the use of ketamine for postoperative and emergency department management of pain and in the critically unwell, mechanically ventilated population.

Although the intravenous dose required for induction of anaesthesia has been reported to be 1–4.5 mg/kg, a commonly recommended dose regime is 1.0 mg/kg followed by repeated boluses of 0.5–1.0 mg/kg if initial sedation is inadequate. A recommended dose for analgesia is an intravenous infusion of 0.27–0.75 mg/kg/h. Low dose ketamine when given as an intravenous bolus for acute postoperative pain has been defined as a subanaesthetic dose or < 1 mg/kg. Low dose ketamine, when given as an infusion, is less well defined. One review defined low dose infusion as ≤ 0.2 mg/kg/h. Alternatively, subdissociative dosing of 0.1–0.4 mg/kg/h has also been described as low dose.

Results: There are few randomised controlled trials evaluating ketamine's utility in the ICU. The evidence is predominantly retrospective and observational in nature and the results are heterogeneous. Available evidence is summarised in a descriptive manner, with a division made between high dose and low dose ketamine. Ketamine's pharmacology and use as an analgesic agent outside of the ICU is briefly discussed, followed by evidence for use in the ICU setting, with particular emphasis on analgesia, sedation and intubation. Finally, data on adverse effects including delirium, coma, haemodynamic adverse effects, raised intracranial pressure, hypersalivation and laryngospasm are presented.

From the available evidence, it is unclear whether the haemodynamic changes are detrimental or beneficial in the critically unwell. However, the apparent negative effects when ketamine is used in large doses or in patients with significant sympathetic activity are concerning. The doses of ketamine in the studies mentioned are greater than the 0.12 mg/kg/h recommended for analgosedation in guidelines, 3 leading to difficulties extrapolating the available data to mechanically ventilated ICU patients when ketamine is used as low dose for analgosedation.

Conclusions: Ketamine is used in mechanically ventilated ICU patients with several potentially positive clinical effects. However, it has a significant side effect profile, which may limit its use in these patients. The role of low dose ketamine infusion in mechanically ventilated ICU patients is not well studied and requires investigation in high quality, prospective randomised trials.

Use The Power of Communication: At 2 years, your toddler has a decent power of comprehension. They are aware of things happening around them and can take and execute commands effectively. So, at that age, if you try to explain something, they can grasp what you are trying to convey and process it better than a few-month-old baby. Therefore, effective communication can assist you in weaning your toddler. Tell them that they are growing up. Encourage them by expressing that you are proud of them for being a big baby who can walk, talk and eat independently. Generate interest in them about the exciting things growing up can expose them to. In this process, sprinkle the fact that older babies no more require breast milk. Tell them they need to make space in their tummy by giving up breast milk to enjoy other, more delicious foods.

I didn’t use anything like this after my first two pregnancies but prior to my third I still had a bit of a pooching belly. During my third pregnancy I thought, if there was a way to take advantage of the remaining relaxin in my body to help reshape it, that would be way cool! Belly binding looked much too difficult so I bought a Cinch tummy wrap. I bought the one that allowed for a cool compress to go inside. It was great in the beginning but in short time I didn’t need the cool compress and I found the Cinch did show more in form fitting summer tops. Then I wished I had purchased the less noticeable couture style. Now there are a lot more options available when it comes to postpartum belly wraps. Comparatively speaking, using a belly wrap did seem to help though it didn’t completely get rid of the poochy belly.

Home pregnancy tests detect a hormone in your urine called hCG (short for human chorionic gonadotropin). When a sperm and an egg join and start growing, some of the cells (that will soon become the placenta) start producing hCG. Levels of hCG rise rapidly in early pregnancy, and this is what home pregnancy tests are checking for. At-home pregnancy tests usually work one of two ways: You either hold the stick in your stream of urine (preferably first thing in the morning, when your urine hCG levels will be the most concentrated), or you pee in a cup and dip the stick in. You then lay the stick or strip flat and wait the amount of time given on the box (typically 1 to 5 minutes, depending on the test). See more information on https://www.mommed.com/.

The test is done by injecting a small quantity say 2ml of vasodialting agent such as Papaverine into the cavernosa. The Peak Systolic Velocity and The End Diastolic Velocities are noted.

Viagra doesn’t work automatically. You must feel sexually aroused to experience its effects. What impacts the effectiveness of Viagra? Several factors can influence how quickly and completely Viagra works once you take it. Those include: Taking it on a full stomach. If you take Viagra on a full stomach—particularly with a heavy, high-fat meal—the medication may take longer to work. A full stomach can delay your body’s absorption of Viagra, meaning your erection might come later than expected, be less strong than you wanted, and not last as long as you would’ve liked. (That doesn’t mean you need to take Viagra on an empty stomach.)

Pepper gel: this type of product, which contains, among other things, peppermint extract: Improves blood circulation and dilates the vessels and improves vaginal dryness. Although there is not much evidence of the effectiveness of this gel, it can work in some women and does no harm anyway. Aloe vera gel: this is an intimate gel that helps in the case of a dry, sensitive vagina, these problems may occur due to menopause or a decrease in hormone levels.

Vad orsakar ITP?

Coordinate with Your Caregivers: For some of you, this will be no problem at all. For others? Not so much. Not every person has an easy time asking for help. When you’re recovering from foot surgery, though, it’s important to make sure you have people around to support you, especially during those first few days and weeks after your surgery. In addition to having somebody on hand to drive you home immediately after the procedure, it’s good to make sure you’ll at least have someone able to drop by on a daily basis, or just be on hand to shop for you, clean for you, or help you with other tasks you can’t accomplish on your own.

You’re going to need to eat: This one may seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised by how many people forget to stock their pantry and refrigerator before surgery. Whatever else you’re dealing with, make sure you get to the grocery store one more time before your procedure. Try to have enough supplies on hand for two weeks. You may even want to consider preparing and freezing some meals so that it’s simple to have a delicious meal later, when you probably won’t feel much like cooking.

In 2006, Dr. Moharan earned multiple medical doctor degrees from New York College & abroad. Thereafter, he went on to complete his residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. Foraminotomy. In this procedure, the surgeon enlarges the bony hole where a nerve root exits the spinal canal to prevent bulging disks or joints thickened with age from pressing on the nerve. Nucleoplasty, also called plasma disk decompression. This laser surgery uses radiofrequency energy to treat people with low back pain associated with a mildly herniated disk. The surgeon inserts a needle into the disk. A plasma laser device is then inserted into the needle and the tip is heated, creating a field that vaporizes the tissue in the disk, reducing its size and relieving pressure on the nerves.

How do you know when you need spine surgery? When someone comes to us with extremity symptoms, we almost always suggest they first get an evaluation with their primary care physician. If a person is experiencing low back pain or neck pain, we will usually watch them over time and encourage them to maintain good, stable physical activity to see if the issue resolves. If the issue is not resolving with physical activity, over the counter treatments, or pain management and anti-inflammatory medication, the next step would be to see a doctor for an evaluation.

Anesthesiologists who specialize in pain management can work with you before and after surgery to develop a plan tailored to your condition, personal history, and preferences. They will consult with you after surgery to determine what is working and what is not, and they will adjust your pain management treatment based on the level of pain you are experiencing. Anesthesiologists work with your surgical team to evaluate, monitor, and supervise your care before, during, and after surgery—delivering anesthesia, leading the Anesthesia Care Team, and ensuring your optimal safety.

If you have a medical condition or injury that affects your nervous system, you may see a neurologist for evaluation and diagnosis. What are some types of back surgery? NIH’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) lists the following as some of the surgical options for low back pain. But NINDS also cautions that “there is little evidence to show which procedures work best for their particular indications.” Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. These procedures are used to repair compression fractures of the vertebrae caused by osteoporosis. Both procedures include the injection of a glue-like bone cement that hardens and strengthens the bone.

Many patients with spine problems can be treated non-surgically. Physical therapy, home exercises, medication and often times spinal injections are recommended prior to considering surgery. If the problem still isn’t resolved, then surgery becomes a good option. For instance, if a patient has significant neurogenic pain in the extremities and non-surgical management has not provided relief, surgical intervention is the best decision. For those with symptoms related to spinal cord or nerve root compression, such as significant weakness in an arm or leg or limb, we may recommend surgical intervention if non-surgical management was unsuccessful.

Spinal fusion. The surgeon removes the spinal disk between two or more vertebrae, then fuses the adjacent vertebrae using bone grafts or metal devices secured by screws. Spinal fusion may result in some loss of flexibility in the spine and requires a long recovery period to allow the bone grafts to grow and fuse the vertebrae together. Artificial disk replacement. This is considered an alternative to spinal fusion for the treatment of people with severely damaged disks. The procedure involves removal of the disk and its replacement by a synthetic disk that helps restore height and movement between the vertebrae.

Research published in 2012 in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine shows a significant link between commuting by car and increased weight gain, even among those who are otherwise physically active. So, if a distance is short enough for you to walk and you’re physically able to do so, go by foot whenever possible. “This doesn’t mean you have to do the same boring squat routine every day – it just means you have to be consistent with your fitness routine,” says Kira Mahal, trainer at MotivatePT. “It’s easy to start a new fitness routine but it’s very difficult to continue it. Write down your workouts for the week and make sure to stick to that. “I recommend working out five days a week with two rest days in order to see results. Keep your workouts exciting by switching it up every day. After a few weeks, working out will become a habit and you will start to crave it.” Read extra info at dr. Akram Ismail.

Maintaining weight loss involves a commitment to a healthful lifestyle, from which there is no “vacation.” Although people should feel free to enjoy a special meal out, a birthday celebration, or a joyful holiday feast without feeling guilty, they should try not to stray too far from the path of healthful eating and frequent physical activity. Those who do may find that they lose focus. Gaining back lost weight is easier than losing it. Achieving and maintaining weight loss is possible when people adopt lifestyle changes in the long term. Regardless of any specific methods that help a person lose weight, individuals who are conscious of how and what they eat and engage in daily physical activity or regular exercise will be successful both in losing and keeping off excess weight.

Fitness and alternative health news by dr. Akram Ismail : The Pilates method was first developed by Joseph Pilates to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, and improve overall health. It is a mixture of yoga, martial arts, and gymnastics. He first taught his method as “Contrology,” a mash-up of Eastern and Western philosophies and techniques, to a small group of devoted teachers and students in the United States after emigrating from Germany following World War I. Years later, in the 1950s, Pilates used his techniques to rehabilitate dancers at his studio in New York City without receiving much recognition for his method.

Put simply, the plainer the color of the liquid the better it is for your teeth. Milk is full of calcium which will help to give you strong teeth and bones. Water is excellent at washing away plaque and other debris in your mouth. Drinking plenty of these two liquids will also help you to stay hydrated, that’s good for your overall health. Research shows that an electric toothbrush is more effective than a manual one at removing plaque. It can remove as much as 70% more plaque! An electric toothbrush won’t just help to keep your teeth healthy. Many of the modern ones have dedicated whitening cycles. This is a special 3-minute brush that helps to remove stains and leave your teeth looking naturally white. Getting shiny teeth the natural way will take longer than getting a Hollywood smile. But the perseverance is worth it and you’ll be looking after your oral health at the same time.

Double the Protein: Studies have shown that people who double their lean protein level lose more weight and fat than those who keep protein at a steady level. Incorporate lean cuts of chicken, pork and beef and incorporate in every meal. Eggs are also a delicious source of protein. Start your day with a healthy breakfast: For most people, skipping breakfast simply equates to gorging later when they feel like they are starving. Make a high-protein and high-fibre breakfast a priority and you will avoid this entirely.

Others can’t as clearly read your emotions. Without every muscle in your face visible to the outside world, you’re free to use the obscured lower half to make any kind of expression you’d like. You can enjoy without restraint some of your darker emotional reactions to people, ranging from dislike or disapproval to sarcastic or other kinds of inappropriate emotions, even if just to amuse yourself. You can even talk quietly to yourself without anyone knowing. Of course, you have to keep that poker face in the upper third of facial muscles, especially the eyes, but the rest of your muscles can do whatever they want underneath the fabric.

This work was performed under a contract between the National Institute of Health Research, Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Department (Air- and Space Medicine), and National Institute of Health Research, representative of the Lumbarest company. Sixty voluntary males at ages from 65 to 43 years (avg. 36.6 yrs.) with different afflictions, but characteristically typical of degenerative-dystrophic changes of the spinal column in the unstable state of remission or with subacute symptoms (moderate pain in other regions of the spinal column, stiffness in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar areas with restricted mobility). The treatment in the supine position on the Lumbarest-mat, the treatment duration (40 minutes), and the method and frequency of positional correction during treatment were conducted according to the established procedure and under supervision of specialists supplied by the National Institute of Health Research and Prof. Dr. Philip Moore. Every voluntary participant was subjected to a single traction treatment on the Lumbarest.

A person suspended in zero gravity has no gravitational force acting on their body and therefore is said to be in a suspended state. Zero gravity recliners operate by gently reclining the body into this position while equally dispersing your weight throughout the chair’s surface area. NASA indeed pioneered the development of zero-gravity technologies. This is similar to that taken by astronauts during the launch of space missions. They must adopt a zero-gravity attitude to escape the extreme stress that occurs during the rapid rises in gravity that occur when fleeing the Earth’s gravitational pull. From upright to fully reclined, every position in your zero gravity chair is securely secured by a locking mechanism, allowing you to choose your chosen position and rest in complete confidence effortlessly.

Studies reported follow-ups ranging from one to sixteen weeks, with a few reporting follow-ups lasting from six months to a year or more. Static lower back traction alone or in conjunction with other treatments, such as sham (fake) treatment, exercise, laser, ultrasound, and corsets, is no more successful in treating low back pain than physiotherapy without traction. Regardless of whether or not you have sciatica, these findings hold. When it came to the sort of traction used, there was no difference (manual or mechanical). In the 32 clinical trial and researches, were no documented negative side effects from using lower back traction at home, in the clinics or hospitals. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy with Lumbarest mat is a natural traction therapy that stretches the spine gently; resulting in a change of force and position of the spine and turn relieves the spinal discs and nerves of the pressure causing the pain in the first place. Sustained IGF-1 delivery research from Karim Sarhane right now

Reconstructive transplantation studies from Karim Sarhane 2022? Researchers at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, conducted a study to develop a drug delivery system using a very small material, nanofiber hydrogel composite, which can hold nanoparticles containing IGF-1 and be delivered near the injured nerve to help it heal. Dr. Kara Segna, MD, received one of three Best of Meeting Abstract Awards from the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA Pain Medicine) for the project. She will present the abstract “IGF-1 Nanoparticles Improve Functional Outcomes After Peripheral Nerve Injury” on Saturday, April 2, at 1:45 pm during the 47th Annual Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Meeting being held March 31-April 2, 2022, in Las Vegas, NV. Coauthors include Drs. Sami Tuffaha, Thomas Harris, Chenhu Qui, Karim Sarhane, Ahmet Hoke, Hai-Quan Mao.

During his research time at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Sarhane was involved in developing small and large animal models of Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation. He was also instrumental in building The Peripheral Nerve Research Program of the department, which has been very productive since then. In addition, he completed an intensive training degree in the design and conduct of Clinical Trials at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Although numerous studies have demonstrated the benefit of IGF-1 to SCs, myocytes, and neurons in vitro and following PNI in animal models, several factors must be examined prior to proposing a treatment modality that is suitable for clinical translation. Besides efficacy, additional considerations include ease of regulatory clearance and safety. With regard to regulatory clearance, GH, Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone, and IGF-1 are already clinically available, FDA-approved drugs approved for other indications. With regards to safety, hypoglycemia is the most commonly seen short-term effect of IGF-1 use, although accumulation of body fat, coarsening of facial features, and lymphoid hyperplasia necessitating surgical correction have also been observed with long-term use (Contreras et al., 1995; Tuffaha et al., 2016b). Clinical trials investigating a link between malignancy and exogenous GH therapy have been equivocal, with multiple studies in children undergoing GH therapy demonstrating a low risk of associated malignancy. Additionally, GH therapy in adults has not been found to increase the risk of cancer (Yang et al., 2004; Xu et al., 2005; Chung et al., 2008; Renehan and Brennan, 2008; Svensson and Bengtsson, 2009; Tuffaha et al., 2016b). Given the potential systemic effects of IGF-1, a practical delivery system that can provide sustained release of bioactive IGF-1 to nerve and muscle tissue affected by PNI is of great importance. It will also be important to determine the minimum dose and duration required to achieve therapeutic efficacy.

Effects with sustained IGF-1 delivery (Karim Sarhane research) : We successfully engineered a nanoparticle delivery system that provides sustained release of bioactive IGF-1 for 20 days in vitro; and demonstrated in vivo efficacy in a translational animal model. IGF-1 targeted to denervated nerve and muscle tissue provides significant improvement in functional recovery by enhancing nerve regeneration and muscle reinnervation while limiting denervation-induced muscle atrophy and SC senescence. Targeting the multimodal effects of IGF-1 with a novel delivery.

Research efforts to improve PNI outcomes have primarily focused on isolated processes, including the acceleration of intrinsic axonal outgrowth and maintenance of the distal regenerative environment. In order to maximize functional recovery, a multifaceted therapeutic approach that both limits the damaging effects of denervation atrophy on muscle and SCs and accelerates axonal regeneration is needed. A number of promising potential therapies have been under investigation for PNI. Many such experimental therapies are growth factors including glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), fibroblast growth factor (FGF), and brain-derived neurotrophic growth factor (Fex Svenningsen and Kanje, 1996; Lee et al., 2007; Gordon, 2009). Tacrolimus (FK506), delivered either systemically or locally, has also shown promise in a number of studies (Konofaos and Terzis, 2013; Davis et al., 2019; Tajdaran et al., 2019).

Tene Kishan Los Angeles, California has a background in health care and public administration. She earned 3 college degrees and has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in political science, a Bachelor’s of Science in nursing and a Master’s Degree in public administration. Tene Kishan is Registered Nurse with a background in ICU/Critical Care and owns a non-profit organization that’s provides services and puts on community events for youth in need of housing services in the area of Los Angeles County.

Choosing the right major is always an important step when researching how to become a registered nurse in the icu. When we researched the most common majors for a registered nurse in the icu, we found that they most commonly earn bachelor’s degree degrees or associate degree degrees. Other degrees that we often see on registered nurse in the icu resumes include master’s degree degrees or diploma degrees. You may find that experience in other jobs will help you become a registered nurse in the icu. In fact, many registered nurse in the icu jobs require experience in a role such as registered nurse. Meanwhile, many registered nurse in the icus also have previous career experience in roles such as staff nurse or licensed practical nurse.

Tene Kishan about ICU nurse careers: What do ICU nurses do? ICU nurses work in challenging and complex fields in their nursing profession. They have the primary duty to provide lifesaving care to patients fighting for their lives. They are highly trained to provide exceptional care for patients who depend on 24/7 nursing care. A patient in ICU is often ventilated, intubated, and can be on several life-saving machines and medications. ICU nurses are at the top of their game and well-versed with all aspects of specialized care to restore their patients’ health and wellness. Some of the specific responsibilities of ICU nurses include: Evaluating and monitoring of patient’s progress and identification of any sudden or subtle changes in the patient’s medical condition. Administering medications intravenously by injection or via gastric tubes.

Critical care nurses provide highly skilled, expert care for the most severely ill or injured patients. This introduction – part one of a six-part series – provides an overview of their role. Critical care nurses provide expert, specialist care to the most severely ill or injured patients in intensive care units and the wider hospital. They are highly trained and skilled safety-critical professionals working as part of a multidisciplinary team. Critical care is classified using four levels of patient acuity, as outlined in Table 1. Updated guidelines for the provision of intensive care services (Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, 2019) recommend that level-3 patients should have a minimum registered nurse–patient ratio of 1:1 and level-2 patients must have a minimum nurse–patient ratio of 1:2.

ICU nurse is also known as a critical care nurse. Critical care nurses provide most of the direct care to patients in life-threatening situations within the intensive care unit. ICU nurses commonly provide care to patients suffering from cardiac disease, brain injuries, accident victims, and patients recovering from complex surgeries that need frequently nursing care. Intensive care unit nurses work very closely with physicians and other members of the health care team. They need to be skilled to assess patients’ problems quickly and capable to use high-tech equipment. They use their advanced skills to care for patients who are critically ill and at high risk for life-threatening health problems. See extra info on Tene Kishan.

Peripheral nerve regeneration research studies from Karim Sarhane today

Reconstructive transplantation research studies with Karim Sarhane right now? One-fifth to one-third of patients with traumatic injuries to their arms and legs experience nerve injury, which can be devastating. It can result in muscle weakness or numbness, prevent walking or using the arms, and reduce the ability to perform daily activities. Even with surgery, some nerve injuries never recover, and currently there are not many medical options to address this problem. In 2022, the researchers plan to perform this research on more primates to triple the size of the original group. The study can then move into phase I clinical trials for humans.

Dr. Karim Sarhane is an MD MSc graduate from the American University of Beirut. Following graduation, he completed a 1-year internship in the Department of Surgery at AUB. He then joined the Reconstructive Transplantation Program of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins University for a 2-year research fellowship. He then completed a residency in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toledo (2021). In July 2021, he started his plastic surgery training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery (2021).

Delivery of Exogenous IGF-1

Effects by sustained IGF-1 delivery (Karim Sarhane research) : To realize the therapeutic potential of IGF-1 treatment for PNIs, we designed, optimized, and characterized a novel local delivery system for small proteins using a new FNP-based encapsulation method that offers favorable encapsulation efficiency with retained bioactivity and a sustained release profile for over 3 weeks. The IGF-1 NPs demonstrated favorable in vivo release kinetics with high local loading levels of IGF-1 within target muscle and nerve tissue.

Peripheral nerve injuries (PNIs) affect approximately 67 800 people annually in the United States alone (Wujek and Lasek, 1983; Noble et al., 1998; Taylor et al., 2008). Despite optimal management, many patients experience lasting motor and sensory deficits, the majority of whom are unable to return to work within 1 year of the injury (Wujek and Lasek, 1983). The lack of clinically available therapeutic options to enhance nerve regeneration and functional recovery remains a major challenge.

The frame of the clean shed can be generally divided into three types: stainless steel square pass, varnished iron square pass and industrial aluminum profiles. The top and the top can be made of stainless steel steel plate, lacquered cold plastic steel plate, anti-static mesh curtain and acrylic plexiglass and other materials. Anti-static mesh curtains or plexiglass are generally used around, and FFU clean air supply units are used in the air supply unit.

Airflow is the most important factor in controlling cleanliness and temperature and humidity, and it also has some influence on noise. Therefore, the wind speed measurement is the first step in the clean room test. The purpose of the wind speed measurement is to confirm that the air flow sent by the filter meets the design specifications, and the second is to confirm the uniformity of the air flow. In some occasions, due to site restrictions, the indoor ventilation volume must also be converted by multiplying the wind speed by the outlet area.
